• Dr. Ian Gillingham is a family medicine physician based in Lakewood, WA. He completed his medical education at the American University of Integrative Sciences, Sint Maarten School of Medicine, graduating in 2018. He completed his Family Medicine specialty training graduating from the Puyallup Tribal Health Authority Family Medicine Residency program in Tacoma, WA in 2021.
  
  Dr. Gillingham grew up on the East Coast of Central Florida in Melbourne Beach, FL. He first fell in love with medicine at the age of 7 when his father, an anesthesiologist, took him into work one weekend, where he saw an operation to repair a surfer's shark bite.
  
  Dr. Gillingham attributes his yearly visits to see his mother's family in Mexico while growing up, his time abroad as an international student, earning a Masters in Public Health and an MD, and the completion of his Family Medicine residency training at the Puyallup Tribe Health Authority, all have deeply shaped his perspectives on health care.
  
  He is fluent in both Spanish and English, describes himself as a "passionate generalist" who prioritizes ensuring his patients understand what is happening in regards to their health, as well as the reasoning behind the recommendations being made to his patients. He views Family Medicine as the specialty of People & Communities. Dr. Gillingham believes open, clear communication with the patient is essential to the art of medicine.
