Summary
- Growing up in a household of refugees shaped my desires for advocacy from an early age. Interpreting and explaining things in Khmer inspired me to seek a profession that serves vulnerable people. Combining that with my love of science, research, and education motivated me to become a physician.
Before medical school, I developed a track record of conducting community-based research projects in uncommon and underserved communities. Whether it was community based participatory research in Oakland/San Francisco, or EMS related research in Southern California, or assisting in medical education development in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, I am passionate about bringing new knowledge/research to where it has not been before.
You’ll find me now caring for patients and learning how to be the best doctor I can be. I am eager to grow as a clinician, quality improvement researcher, and a stronger partner for community-based organizations (CBOs) to treat the patient not only with the ailments they have, but also the challenges they face on a day-to-day basis.
