Summary
- I am Co-Chief Emeritus of HSS Spine and an Attending Surgeon at HSS specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery, robotic surgery, and the use of spinal biologics to enhance healing. I completed my spine training at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles and was subsequently Chief of the Spinal Surgery Service at UCLA until my recruitment to HSS. I am currently a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and Medical Director and Chief of HSS Orthopedics with Stamford Health.
I am actively engaged in researching and developing medical devices and instruments used in spinal surgery and hold several patents. In addition, I have authored more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications and have received numerous awards from the North American Spine Society, the Orthopedic Research Society, and the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, including the prestigious Volvo Award in spinal research. Most recently, I received the HSS Andrew N. Swanson Memorial Spine Award for excellence in clinical innovation and spine education.
