  • Dr. Belcher is the Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at Kennedy Krieger Institute. She is a Professor and Neurodevelopmental Pediatrician who is jointly appointed in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of Mental Health. She received her B.S. from Howard University in 1980 and M.D. from Howard University College of Medicine in 1982 as a participant in the B.S.-M.D. Honors Program. Currently, Dr. Belcher is Founding Director of the Office for Health, Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity and Center for Diversity in Public Health Leadership Training at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Associate Director of the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Related Disorders program. Dr. Belcher has over three decades of experience working and advocating for individuals with disabilities across the pediatric and early adult lifespan, especially those with complex social determinants and mental health disorders. She uses interdisciplinary approaches to teach undergraduate, graduate and professional students about developmental disabilities, public health, research design, and health disparities. She was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society at Howard University for her “unparalleled work as a teacher and mentor to students”. Dr. Belcher is the 2011 recipient of the Johns Hopkins Institutions Diversity Recognition Award. Dr. Belcher has served on multiple doctoral dissertation committees and personally mentored over 30 graduate and medical students and junior faculty over the last 10 years. Collectively, Dr. Belcher has provided public health educational experiences for over 500 students through CDC- funded education programs. The majority of students (95%) Dr. Belcher worked with were working, seeking employment, or continuing their education in public health research, administrative, or clinical fields.
