He has been a practicing Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist for the past 30 years. He is currently the Program Director for Gastroenterology Fellowship Program and Medical Director of UM Student Run Free Clinic. His clinical research has been focused in Viral Hepatitis, in Metabolic Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), Drug-induced liver injury, Chronic liver disease. His contributions to medical literature are notable, having been cited multiple times.

    Dr. Conjeevaram has also been active in global education of medical students, residents and GI Fellows and instrumental in mediating collaborative educational partnerships with global institutions. In 2015, he helped establish the first ever Fellowship Program (in Gastroenterology), at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

    He has won numerous awards for his educational efforts, mentoring and teaching and for Humanism in Medicine, some of these include “H. Marvin Pollard Award” for ‘Outstanding Teaching of IM Residents’, Department of IM ‘House Staff Recognition Award’ and Faculty Inductee, AOA (Alpha Omega Alpha) Honor Medical Society. He won the “Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award” twice. In 2017, he was inducted into the UM ‘Clinical Excellence Society’ and also received the “2017 American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Distinguished Lifetime Educator Award” presented to an individual for achievements as an outstanding educator over a lifelong career. In 2019, he received the American College of Physicians (ACP)-Michigan “Volunteerism & Community Service Award” and in 2020, he received the “American College (ACG) Community Service Award”. In June 2022, he received “Special Recognition Award for Medical Student Teaching" by UM Medical School.
