Summary
- I am a Board-Certified psychiatrist in practice since 2002. I completed residency at Mount Sinai in New York, and psychoanalytic and organizational training at the William Alanson White Institute.
I treat people with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in addition, and have found it to be a uniquely effective clinical tool. I have a considerable psychopharm practice as well, and emphasize collaboration with other providers and client-centered, individualized treatment.
I specialize in treating depression and trauma & dissociation, and practice psychotherapy for people with various characterologic and interpersonal problems. Because of these interests, I am accustomed to working with people who have addictive and compulsive behaviors with food, shopping, drugs and alcohol, and other related areas. I am familiar with all of the contemporary issues around sexuality, gender and identity.
I completed 2 years of general surgery residency at Long Island Jewish, which gives me an excellent foundation for working with patients with chronic and severe med-surg problems.
I have 20+ years of experience working in disaster psychiatry. I am on the board of Vibrant Emotional Health, advising the Crisis Emotional Care Team, and co-edited the volume Creating Spiritual and Psychological Resilience: Integrating Care in Disaster Relief Work, and the 2nd edition of Disaster Psychiatry: Readiness, Evaluation and Treatment. I have co-authored three self-help books on relationships and personal growth.
Irrelationship: How We Use Dysfunctional Relationships to Hide from Intimacy
Relationship Sanity: Creating and Maintaining Health Relationships
Making Your Crazy Work For You: From Trauma and Isolation to Self-Acceptance and Love.
I co-host the therapy-centered Doorknob Comments Podcast, and my Psychology Today blog ExperiMentations, with over 13 million views.
