Summary

  • Dr. Graham Creasey trained in surgery in Britain with specialization in spinal cord injuries. He moved to the USA in 1990 and worked in spinal cord injury medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, continuing research into electrical stimulation for restoration of bladder and bowel function after spinal cord injury. In collaboration with the Functional Electrical Stimulation Center in Cleveland he introduced into North America a neural prosthesis for this purpose developed by Prof. Giles Brindley, FRS, at the Medical Research Council of the UK.
In 2008 he was appointed as Paralyzed Veterans of America Professor of Spinal Cord Injury Medicine in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine, and Chief of the Spinal Cord Injury Service at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. He stepped down from clinical work in 2019 and is continuing research on restoration of bladder and bowel function by electrical implants.
