Summary
- George Wanna, MD has served as the Chair of Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Mount Sinai Downtown [The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (NYEE) and Mount Sinai Union Square] since January 2017. He is also Chief of the Division of Otology-Neurotology for the Mount Sinai Health System and a Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Professor of Neurological Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is widely recognized as one of few surgeons performing endoscopic acoustic neuroma, cholesteatoma and glomus tumor removal. In addition to advanced skull base surgeries, his clinical expertise includes all stages of hearing loss and cochlear implantation.
Employing minimally invasive surgical approaches through image-guided surgery is the primary focus of his research. Most recently, he was the first to perform a mastoidectomy using robotic arm technology called the exoscope, which he has also utilized during acoustic neuroma cases.
Dr. Wanna is the creator and course director of the Annual Endoscopic Middle Ear Dissection Course at NYEE, the Editor-in-Chief of Otolaryngology Case Reports and a Senior Board Examiner for the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
