- Dr. Gaurav Sharma is a clinical and molecular pathologist and one of the laboratory medical directors at Henry Ford Health in Detroit, Michigan, where as the Vice-Chair of Clinical Pathology, he helps lead several laboratory initiatives, including the regional laboratory, clinical pathology core laboratory, outreach laboratory, laboratory formulary, and ISO 15189 accreditation.
He is a strong advocate of value and safety-oriented collaborations between clinical laboratories, clinicians, and administration. Dr. Sharma is board-certified in Anatomical-Clinical, Molecular-Genetic Pathology, and Clinical Informatics. He has completed residencies and fellowships at Henry Ford Hospital, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Michigan. Currently, Dr. Sharma is a member of the Quality Practices and Inspection Process Committees of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), advisor to the CAP Practice Management Committee, and has previously chaired the CAP15189 Committee that oversees the CAP15189 Program that accredits domestic and overseas laboratories for the ISO 15189 standard. He served on the CAP Standards and DIHIT Committees, the CheckPath Clinical Pathology Committee of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), and the Informatics Committee of the U.S. and Canadian Academy of Pathology. He is a recipient of the Translational Diagnostics Advanced Training Grant (CAP), Leadership Development Award (CAP), Pathology Advancement Award (CAP), 40 Under 40 Award (ASCP), and Choosing Wisely Champion (ASCP). His laboratory analytics and quality management systems work has been featured in CAP Today and ASCP Critical Values. He enjoys working in fast-paced, creative environments, is an avid reader of history, and is an essayist on leadership, medicine, and stoicism. His essays have won two Joseph J Weiss, MD Memorial Essay Awards. He is also a member of the Wayne County Medical Society of Southeast Michigan's editorial board.
