    His professional practice entails senior leadership and supervisory physician responsibility for all personnel and healthcare services in support of NASA's human spaceflight program. Areas of responsibility include: Space Radiation Analysis; Research Operations; Biomedical Engineering; Flight Medicine; Occupational Medicine; Pharmacy; Clinical Laboratory; Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL); Ellington Field (aircraft operations); Russian Medical Operations in Moscow and Star City; and Space Medicine Operations for the International Space Station (ISS), Commercial Crew Program (SpaceX & Boeing), and the Artemis Program (Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, Lunar Gateway, and Human Lander System).

    Dr Beven is also an experienced aerospace psychiatrist whose secondary role includes all behavioral health aspects of NASA's human spaceflight program with a primary emphasis on astronaut selection, training, mission preparation, and preflight/inflight/postflight assessment of astronauts assigned to long duration spaceflight missions on the International Space Station--the ultimate goal of which is to prepare for missions beyond low earth orbit including lunar habitation missions and eventually the first human mission to Mars.
