Summary

• Gary Anthone, MD, FACS, is currently the CMO for Vetter Health Services in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a 1983 graduate of Creighton University Medical School where he also completed his General Surgery Residency in 1989 under Chairman Dr. Tom DeMeester. After a 2 year Fellowship in the Department of Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, he rose to the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Southern California, also under Chairman Dr. Tom DeMeester, from 1991-2003 with a special interest in bariatric surgery and repair of large abdominal wall defects. He completed a Fellowship in Colorectal Surgery while at USC. From 2003-2016 he was Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at the Methodist Health System in Omaha, Nebraska and from 2016-2019 started a private solo Bariatric and Hernia Surgery practice and was a faculty member in the Department of Surgery at Creighton University Medical School. In 2019, Nebraska Governor (now Senator) Pete Ricketts appointed Dr. Anthone as the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Public Health for the state and he continued in that role until starting his current position in 2023. Dr. Anthone has authored numerous peer reviewed publications and book chapters as well as given several Grand Rounds and Academic presentations. He is married to Annlouise. They have 6 children and 11 granchildren.
