He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's of Science in exercise physiology from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. While completing his undergraduate degree, he spent five years working as a clinical research assistant in pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine at the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas. He subsequently obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas McGovern Medical School where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. During medical school, Garrett was actively involved orthopedic trauma and primary care sports medicine research. His research interests include overuse injury prevention, sport specialization in youth athletics, and the effects of chronic disease on athletic performance in elite athletes.
