Summary
- Evan J. Keil graduated with honors from The University of St. Thomas and is now a fourth-year MD candidate at the University of Minnesota. He is passionate about increasing access to high-quality obstetrical care and gynecologic surgery while developing bidirectional, sustainable international partnerships. Throughout his time in medical school, he has conducted research in the synthesis of novel anti-tuberculosis therapies, global collaboration in social media, improving surgical access and care in lower- and middle-income countries, as well as various clinical studies. In one such clinical study, he is analyzing placental flow, volume, and vascularity as a means to predict preeclampsia in the first trimester. In another, he is working to find novel treatments for interstitial cystitis through a combination of four drugs via sub-mucosal injections. Also during medical school, he started and served as the first president of a chapter of the Global Surgery Student Alliance. Locally, he is an active advocate for increased training on female genital cutting/mutilation at the medical student level and sits on a state-wide FGC/M prevention working group. Additionally, he collaborated with the local children's hospital to create a yearly event connecting patients and families to nature through art & healthy farm-fresh food. Internationally, he sits on an advocacy working group through the G4 alliance for SOTA (surgical, obstetrical, trauma, anesthesia) care which aims to promote this type of care during humanitarian crises. Moving forward, Evan plans to pursue a residency in obstetrics in gynecology with a global health focus, with the intention to pursue fellowship training. Personally, he is eagerly awaiting the birth of his first child this December and has already begun to practice his dad-jokes.
