- Dr. Esther Torres, based in San Juan, PR, is a specialist in gastroenterology with a exertise in inflammatory bowel disease and liver diseaes. She received her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 1972 and completed both her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology there. She has been a full time faculty member of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine since 1976, where she is now an emeritus professor, and served as Division Chair and as Chair of Medicine. She is the founder and director of the Center for IBD of the UPR and of the Gastroenterology Research Unit, and has been an active clinical investigator for many years with multiple scientific presentations and publications. Dr. Torres is a recognized expert in her field, having received the Master award from the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology, and distinguished as a Fellow from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and American Gastroenterological Association.
