Summary
- I am currently Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and former Chief, Division of Solid Organ Transplant and Vascular Anesthesia, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Jackson Memorial Hospital. I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiologists with Special Qualifications in Critical Care Medicine.
My research has covered a wide range of fields in clinical medicine, public health and basic science in collaboration with colleagues at University of Miami and Engineering at FIU. I am an expert in clinical organ transplantation and emergency public health (disaster) research. I hold 2 United States Patents and I am Past-President and Founder of the Society for the Advancement of Transplant Anesthesia (SATA) (www.transplantanesthesia.org) – (https://player.fm/series/sage-cardiology-and-cardiovascular-medicine/transplant-anesthesia-where-weve-been-where-were-going.)
I have published numerous articles on anesthesia for organ transplantation. I am Editor-in-Chief of the Oxford textbook of Transplant Anaesthesia and Critical Care: The Scientific Basis of Perioperative Transplant Care (https://www.amazon.com/Oxford-Textbook-Transplant-Anaesthesia-Critical/dp/0199651426), which was published in 2015. The book was the first scholarly and comprehensive textbook in the field of Transplant Anesthesia and Intensive Care.
My current research focus is on the development of ultra stable nano-emulsified formulations of volatile anesthetics for novel clinical applications (http://med.miami.edu/news/miller-school-researchers-develop-innovative-anesthesia-formulation) and I am also working on the development of a wearable sensor that monitors volatile anesthetic concentration transcutaneously. The latter research garnered the 2020 Technology Innovation Award from the Society for Technology in Anesthesia (STA).
