- Erica M. Scavella, M.D., FACP, FACHE has served in three appointed roles in the Senior Executive Service (SES) as The Medical Inspector, Office of The Medical Inspector (2018), followed by appointment as the Associate Deputy Under Secretary for Health for Oversight, Risk and Ethics (2021), and currently as the Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Clinical Services and Chief Medical Officer (2022). In these roles, Dr. Scavella has provided clinical oversight and established policy for the nation’s largest integrated healthcare system serving over 9 million enrolled Veterans annually at over 1,700 sites of care. As a member of the senior-most executive leadership team aligned under the Under Secretary for Health, Dr. Scavella regularly briefs other VA Senior Leaders, members of Congress, and other Federal agencies.
Dr. Scavella is certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and has been elected Fellow of both the American College of Physicians (2005) and American College of Healthcare Executives (2012). She is a graduate of the residential Senior Executive Fellows Program at the Harvard Kennedy School (2017) and sits on several boards to include the VA Senior Executive Orientation Advisory Board (2019), Accreditation Council on Continuing Medical Education (ACCME, 2022) and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME, 2023).
