Summary
- Eric Low, MD MPH, is a board-certified gastroenterologist who specializes in esophageal diseases and conditions. Dr. Low treats eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and other eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and related conditions such as voice complaints (laryngopharyngeal reflux), swallowing disorders such as achalasia and esophageal motility disorders, and Barrett's esophagus.
Dr. Low performs upper GI endoscopies with dilation, EsoFLIP/pneumatic dilation for achalasia, and colonoscopies. He has expertise in interpreting esophageal manometry, reflux monitoring (Bravo testing and pH impedance), and EndoFLIP. He feels that each patient with esophageal complaints is unique, and that their care should be personalized using state-of-the-art diagnostic/therapeutic technologies and multi-disciplinary approaches to provide the highest quality of care.
As an academic gastroenterologist in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Low trains medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine and the San Diego VA Medical Center. He also has formal research training in epidemiology and clinical and translational research. He is an active clinical researcher with federal grant support. His research focuses on understanding the epidemiology and natural history of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), with the overall goal of improving patient care and outcomes in EoE.
Dr. Low completed a specialized, one-year advanced fellowship focused on esophageal diseases at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he also completed fellowship and residency training in gastroenterology. He completed his medical degree at UC San Francisco School of Medicine and also holds a Master of Public Health degree with a focus on epidemiology and biostatistics from Loma Linda University.
In his free time, Dr. Low enjoys running, surfing, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family throughout beautiful San Diego.
