- Dr. Elizabeth Sharpe is an ophthalmologistwho has retired from her primary practice in Mount Pleasant, SC. She is continuing to practice and teach at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center where she is Chief of the Glaucoma Division of the Ophthalmology Section. She received her medical degree from Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine and Ophthalmology Residency from the Medical University of South Carolina. She is Fellowship Trained in Glaucoma and Diseases of the Anterior Segment and has been in practice 40 years. She specializes in evaluation of patients with refractory and complex glaucoma. She has conducted numerous clinical trials and continues to investigate important areas such as new devices and therapies for glaucoma and dry eye as well as the monitoring of diabetic retinopathy in patients being treated with some of the newest diabetic medications. She continues to hold teaching conferences with residents and students and assists ophthalmology residents in their glaucoma and cataract surgical cases. To improve glaucoma subspecialty care to the Veterans who do not live in Charleston, Dr. Sharpe travels to the Myrtle Beach and the Naval Weapons Eye Clinics every other week.
