- Elizabeth Sewell, MD, is a neonatologist and associate professor in pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, with a specialty in neonatology and perinatology. She completed her residency in pediatrics and fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Children's National Hospital and George Washington University. Dr. Sewell holds an MPH in Behavioral Science and a BS in Biology from Emory University. Her expertise includes neonatal brain injury and neuroprotection. She has led educational initiatives, clinical guideline development, quality projects, and research in infants with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, seizures, and post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus. Dr. Sewell is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research. She was honored by the Emory Pediatric Residents as Research Mentor of the Year in 2024. She is also co-chair of the Communications and Networking Committee for the Newborn Brain Society. In the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Consortium, co-leads the Neurosurgery Focus Group and is an active member of the Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy Focus Group.
