- Dr. Elisa Trowbridge is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology & Urology and the Division Director of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Trowbridge received her medical degree at the University of Maryland and OB/GYN residency training at Emory University. She completed her fellowship training in Urogynecology at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and has been in practice for over 20 years.
Dr. Trowbridge has become recognized nationally and regionally as an excellent clinician surgeon. She has developed innovative programs such as sacral neuromodulation for bladder and bowel incontinence, and improved patient care through clinical research in areas of surgical outcomes. Specifically, she is an expert in implementation of Enhanced Recovery Programs following surgery that minimize the physiologic stress of surgery and optimize the rehabilitation of patients. She has been recognized nationally with her clinical excellence, teaching and leadership. She was awarded the Dean's Award for Clinical Excellence in 2011 and was inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Educators in 2013. She was the recipient of the 2018 and 2019 Best Bedside Manner Award in Charlottesville and Shenandoah Valley for
Urogynecology/Female Pelvic Medicine. She was awarded the UVA Health Patient Experience Awards Top Performer (FY 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022) which is awarded to physicians earning a rating in the 90th percentile and above in the patient surveys used to measure patient’s perception. In 2021 and 2022 she ranked in the 95% percentile.
