Summary

  • I am Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Medicine at the Stony Brook University School of Medicine and an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics. In addition to maintaining an active clinical practice in general internal medicine/primary care, I also have a special focus on Women's Health and Osteoporosis. I am very involved in medical education, teaching medical students, residents and fellows. As Co-Chair of the Patient Experience Committee at Stony Brook University Hospital, I direct programs to improve patient satisfaction. Additional administrative responsibilities include a focus on MACRA/MIPS requirements and optimizing our electronic medical records system to support the clinical enterprise and improve the accuracy of quality metrics reporting. For nearly a decade, I was Co-Chair of the Managed Care Contracting Committee which was charged with negotiating all insurance contracts for the over 700 physicians in the faculty practice plan. I've also chaired the Department of Medicine's Incentive Committee and was involved in the development of the currently utilized physician productivity system. I direct an undergraduate geriatrics internship program to expose budding medical practitioners to the important field of geriatrics. Frequent lecture topics include Osteoporosis, Primary Care, The Business of Medicine, and Health Care Reform. In support of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute's programming, I teach a semester long course on navigating the American medical system for the lay public to improve health literacy, reduce medical costs, and obtain better health outcomes.
