Summary
- I see patients at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where I am an Associate Professor with 11 years of experience as an oncologic and reconstructive surgeon. I use open, endoscopic, robotic, and laser procedures to treat neoplasms of the larynx, pharynx, oral cavity, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, salivary glands, parapharyngeal space, and skin. I am also experienced in thyroid and parathyroid surgery.
My research group focuses on squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck, with emphasis on the rapidly growing HPV+ subtype of this disease. This NIH-funded work seeks to address show cancers evade therapy by exploiting aspects of normal human development and devises strategies to improve drug responses by modulating the developmental plasticity inherent in malignant cells. In doing so, our goals are to increase survival for the worst head and neck cancers and alter management for readily curable ones in order to abate treatment toxicity. My dual clinical and scientific roles drive optimal research use of resected cancers to serve these long-term goals.
