Summary
- The Center for Head & Neck Oncology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center treats patients that require complex reconstructions. These patients often require expertise in multiple sequential microvascular reconstructions for recurrent oral cancer. My experience in facial reanimation and complex head and neck reconstruction including double barrel fibula, free ALT and free medial sural artery flaps at Sloan Kettering and at NYU medical centers will widen the breadth of complex procedures that our team can offer to patients at LIJ.
Northwell system is a high volume center for spinal surgery. Many of these patients are multiply operated, who have undergone or will undergo radiation and require local flap coverage of their spinal hardware. My fellowship at NYU medical center in combination with Sloan Kettering provided me with the skill set to deal with these complex problems in the form of paraspinous, latissimus, trapezius and thoracolumbar facial flaps.
The orthopedic department at LIJ medical center with decades of advances in techniques and technology have made joint replacement and surgical reconstruction routine procedures, bringing complex revision surgery to replace worn out artificial joint prostheses to forefront. Revision surgery inherently has higher complication rates requiring local and free flap coverage of the hardware. My experience at the Hospital for Joint Diseases and Bellevue medical center dealing with complex orthopedic trauma and joint replacement surgery will bring expertise necessary for successful joint replacement revision surgery.
The melanoma and skin cancer center at northwell will have an increasing need for a plastic surgeon with expertise in reconstructive surgery with a variety of complex soft tissue defects; My experience in reconstructing Mohs defects and other skin and soft tissue tumors at Sloan Kettering and NYU medical center provide me with a fundamental knowledge dealing with complex soft tissue defects.
