He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, completed his general surgery residency and minimally invasive fellowship at The Ohio State University Medical Center, and has been in practice16 years. Dr. Mikami is the Associate Chair of Clinical Affairs, Division Chief and Associate Program Director for the University of Hawaii Department of Surgery. He is also the Assistant Chief of Surgery for the Queen's Medical Center. He is the current editor-in-Cheif of Bariatric Surgical Practice and Patient Care. He specializes in advanced hernia surgery, bariatric surgery, and minimally invasive surgery and is experienced in minimally invasive surgery, bariatric surgery, and general/gastrointestinal surgery. Dr. Mikami has performed over 3000 hernia repairs and 1500 bariatric procedures.
