- David Wassell, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee reconstructive surgery, and is currently the Acting Chief of Surgery at the Central Arkansas Veterans Hospital System in Little Rock, Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine in 2001 and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the same institution in 2006. Dr. Wassell also holds a BS in military history from the United States Air Force Academy and is a former fighter pilot in the USAF and Air National Guard. In addition to his duties as the Chief of Surgery he continues to lead the Orthopedic Surgery department at Veterans Affairs Central Arkansas Health Care and has served in several leadership roles at Baptist Health Orthopedics-Stuttgart. Prior to his current roles, he worked as an orthopedic surgeon at OrthoArkansas PA. Dr. Wassell has contributed to research on orthopedic devices, with several publications in "Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research" that are cited multiple times.
