Summary
- Dr. Tanen is a graduate of Harvard University, UCLA School of Medicine, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellowship Program at the National Institutes of Health. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency training at Naval Medical Center San Diego and a Medical Toxicology fellowship at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. He is board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology.
He is a retired Navy Captain who spent 22 years on active duty which include tours to Somalia, Iraq (twice), and two humanitarian missions on the Navy’s Hospital Ships to Central and South America and to Southeast Asia. He is currently a UCLA Emergency Medicine Professor and serves as the Associate Residency Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Harbor-UCLA. As a nationally recognized researcher, he has published over 70 manuscripts and 35 textbook chapters with multiple studies on pediatric fever, pain reduction, treatments for acute poisonings and envenomations, and antidotes for chemical threats.
