Summary
- David Solomon, MD is a member of Summit Health’s Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team. Dr. Solomon specializes in orthopedic surgery with a subspecialty in sports medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. He treats a variety of musculoskeletal problems, such as traumatic fractures, with sports-related injuries as a focus area. He has a particular interest in complex knee, shoulder, and hip pathology.
Dr. Solomon completed his orthopedic residency training at Mount Sinai Health System, where he served as a Chief Resident in his final year. He was then selected for one of the most prestigious Sports Medicine fellowships in the country at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. While there, he served as an assistant team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and several NCAA programs. During that time, he immersed himself in sports medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. He has also trained extensively in minimally invasive hip arthroscopy, which can address hip problems without a large incision.
Dr. Solomon believes in patient-centric medicine and shared decision making regarding treatment plans. His treatment plans lead with conservative measures before surgical intervention whenever possible. “Regardless of our treatment path, my goal is to get patients back to the activities that they love, pain-free,” he says.
Recognizing a patient’s needs and goals are a priority during visits and helping them meet those goals is Dr. Solomon’s favorite part of his work. “The passion for my career comes from seeing improvements in a patient’s quality of life,” he adds.
Dr. Solomon has been published in a number of distinguished journals on topics including the shoulder, knee, and foot. He has also written and edited textbook chapters on sports medicine. He received the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons’ Mighell-Frankle Award for his research on rotator cuff repair.
