Summary

  • Dr. David Shoemaker is a nationally recognized expert in cataract and lens replacement surgery, and has dedicated his career to delivering unsurpassed surgical results. As a result of this commitment, more patients have chosen Dr. Shoemaker to restore their vision than any other surgeon his age in the United States.

Under his leadership, the Center For Sight cataract team has helped over 100,000 people enjoy the benefits of today’s advanced cataract surgery, benefits that include clear vision and reduced dependence on glasses. Dr. Shoemaker has been repeatedly honored as one of America’s Top Doctors by the prestigious Top Doctors list published annually by Castle Connolly Medical, LTD., and has been named a Top Doctor by U.S. News and World Report. He has also been named by Bausch + Lomb® as an inaugural member of the Millennium Society. This Society is an elite group of twelve cataract surgeons from around the world who have implanted 1,000 or more Crystalens® lenses – the first and only FDA approved accommodating intraocular lens used to treat cataracts and presbyopia. Dr. Shoemaker is also among a select group of physicians who serve as FDA investigators for new ophthalmic technologies, including the revolutionary LensAR femtosecond laser system for laser cataract surgery. A Florida native, Dr. Shoemaker received his bachelor and medical degrees from the University of Florida, and completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Ochsner Clinic and Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans.

In 1983, Dr. Shoemaker established his practice in Venice, Florida. Today, Center For Sight is acclaimed as one of the world’s premier eye care facilities. Board certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Eye Surgery, Dr. Shoemaker is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American College of Ophthalmic Surgery.
