- Dr. David A. Rothenberger is an internationally recognized leader in colon and rectal surgery with special clinical and research interests in inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, cancer progression and metastasis, and translational research. He is Deputy Chair of the Department of Surgery; the Director of Perioperative, Anesthesia and Surgical Services for the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview; the Senior Vice President for Leadership Development and Clinical Mentorship for the University of Minnesota Physicians; and, founder and co-director of the Emerging Physician Leaders Program at the Medical School. He holds the John P. Delaney Chair in Clinical Surgical Oncology, and is the immediate past Chief of Staff and member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Minnesota Medical Center. He has served as a member of the Masonic Cancer Center Executive Committee from its inception serving first as Associate Director for Clinical Research and Programs from 1997-2007 and then as Associate Director for Clinical Affairs from 2007-2011.
In his role as Director of Perioperative, Anesthesia and Surgical Services and champion of the Safe Surgery Process for the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Dr. Rothenberger has developed and implemented a physician and administrator dyad management team whose primary goal is giving surgical patients the safest and highest quality experience available anywhere.
