Summary

  • I am a practicing psychiatrist in Manhattan, offering individual and couples psychotherapy combined with or without medications, but not stand-alone pharmacotherapy. In other words I want to talk with every patient and find solutions. My professional interests and publications are wide in range. As a voluntary clinical professor I consult to our neurology department, teach psychotherapy, and have done sociocultural studies, as in S.E. Asia. I have also consulted to the New York City Ballet, to 3 of the Star Trek series, and other series and films. Making Faces, a professionally produced video and available free on request, teaches facial emotion recognition in versions for clinicians and patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders. In addition to many academic publications, my trade books include Slots: Praying to the God of Chance; Beyond Eden: The Other Lives of Fine Arts Models and the Meaning of Medical Disrobing, and The Laughing Brain: A Hierarchy of Humor by Mental and Neural Levels. I am a Fellow of the Explorers Club and the Founding Editor of SPRING: The Journal of the E.E. Cummings Society. With patients and their families I seek creative solutions drawn from my extensive training and wide experience.
