Summary
- Dr. David Eng was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. After graduating from Saint Thomas Academy as brigade commander of the high school-wide JROTC program, he attended college at Duke University, where he was witnessed painting his chest blue for basketball games. He then spent the next nine years at the University of Michigan for his medical training, during which time he was recognized as AOA honor society president and chief resident. In between learning about medicine, anesthesia, and heart surgery, he also met, studied alongside, fell in love with, and ultimately married his wife, Kristina.
Upon completing his fellowship in cardiac anesthesia, Dr. Eng moved to Texas to begin his practice with the San Antonio Division of Tejas Anesthesia. He plays a critical role utilizing his skills with transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) to assist his surgical colleagues with coronary bypass surgery, complex valve repairs, minimally-invasive procedures, aortic reconstruction, ventricular assist device placement, heart/liver transplants, and catheter-based treatments of structural heart lesions.
While specializing in anesthesia for heart surgery, he also enjoys taking care of patients undergoing a wide variety of procedures, including thoracic, hepatobiliary, vascular, general, ENT, pediatric, and orthopedic surgery. Dr. Eng is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and is further recognized for skills/training in Advanced Perioperative TEE as a Diplomate by the National Board of Echocardiography.
Outside of the operating room, Dr. Eng is involved in advancing cardiac quality, representing his speciality with Methodist pharmacy/therapeutics, and leading the Tejas finance committee. He also enjoys running, traveling, and watching college sports. Most of all, he will never take for granted his time spent with his wife and healthy two young children.
