  • I am President of Pacific Biopharma Associates, founded in association with my role as general partner with Pacific Rim Ventures (Tokyo; Yokohama - 1999-2008). Board of director activities include Altimmune, Inc (NASDAQ:ALT), 2010-2024 – Chairman, 2011-2017; Tranzyme Pharma (NASDAQ:TZYM) - Chairman, 2000-2010; MethylGene Inc (TSX:MYG), 2000-2010; Gentris Corporation (2007-2014); and DARA BioSciences (NASDAQ:DARA) - Executive Chairman, CEO, and CMO (2012-2017). In addition, I have served on several scientific advisory boards in the area of metabolic syndrome I am a former member of the Science and Industry Advisory Committee (SIAC) of Genome Canada, advisory to the board regarding genomics investments throughout Canada. My additional management experience includes VP Biological Sciences/VP Clinical Research at Smith Kline and French Laboratories, VP Clinical Development at Daiichi Pharmaceutical Corporation, and CEO of Inspire Pharmaceuticals and Sennes Drug Innovations. I received my M.D. from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and postgraduate training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, serving subsequently as a research medical officer in the U.S. Navy with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. I am former Professor and Chief of Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where I also served on NIH and VA scientific study sections.
