Summary
- I am a board certified neurologist and treat a broad range of neurological disorders. I take particular interest and pride in diagnosing rare neurological disorders, but also have extensive experience and expertise with more common disorders, such as migraine, parkinsons disease, seizures, multiple sclerosis and balance disorders, among others. I have found that for many of these diseases it is not enough to be simply up to date with the latest diagnostic and treatment guidelines. To provide truly optimal care it is necessary to search the worldwide medical literature in considerable detail to find all the things that are potentially helpful to my patients. I enjoy involving my patients in the decision making process, and am often pleasantly surprised by how well informed many patients already are. My delightful collection of patients have truly made me a better doctor as well.
Neurological disease can impact many aspects of people's lives, potentially causing depression or anxiety, work or driving restrictions, and I do what I can to mitigate these circumstances. However, I firmly oppose assisting someone seeking disability for illegitimate and unwarranted reasons. This stance has antagonized a few people who were pretending to have neurological disorders in order to obtain disability payments, and they have retaliated by writing some rather negative online reviews about me.
I love neurology, helping people live better and more fulfilling lives by solving difficult medical problems for them, and meeting new and interesting people every day.
I also enjoy doing research and teaching young doctors in training. One of the medical students and I just discovered that a disease that was thought to only affect the hands and feet also affects the blood vessels in the brain and causes an annoying whooshing sound, a discovery we are both very proud of.
