Summary

  • David R. Braxton M.D. is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. His clinical interests and expertise include the histological diagnosis of gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatic disease as well as the application of molecular diagnostics in personalized medicine.

David has ongoing research investigations in the pathogenesis of Barrett’s esophagus, the biology of pancreatic cancer, and in regenerative medicine and stem cell biology. His research experience includes basic laboratory work at the Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research of the University of Southern California. During this time, David explored the molecular development of the primitive endoderm by using small molecule kinase inhibitors to selectively guide the differentiation of human embryonic stem cells towards primitive foregut and hepatic fates. Furthermore, he participated in the characterization of a novel marker of biliary progenitors through the isolation and culture of primary human liver cells. David’s longstanding interest in molecular and cellular biology began as an undergraduate majoring in Biochemistry at the Florida State University, where his thesis focused on regulation of the cell division cycle.
