Summary
- David Alfery, MD received his undergraduate degree at Tulane University and then completed an anesthesia residency at the University of California, San Diego, staying on for an additional year for a Fellowship in cardio-thoracic anesthesia. While spending a 36-year career in private practice in Nashville, TN he had an appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. While specializing in cardiac anesthesia, he also obtained Board Certification in Pain while in practice. His research contributions include 41 peer reviewed publications and 11 textbook chapters, ranging from anesthesia for thoracic surgery to airway management techniques to mitral valve repair strategies. He has invented 4 anesthesia devices which were sold worldwide and for which he was granted 17 US and international patents. He served for 20 years as an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology and is a past President of the TN Society of Anesthesiologists. While in practice also he participated in multiple medical missions with Operation Smile.
