Summary
- Darrell S. Rigel MD MS is Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine and is recognized as a world leader in research and patient care in melanoma and other skin cancers. He is a graduate of MIT with a BS in Management Information Sciences, an MS (MBA) from the Sloan School of Management at MIT and received his MD from George Washington University. He attended Cornell University Medical Center for Internship in Internal Medicine and completed his training at NYU where he was Resident, Chief Resident and Dermatology Surgery Fellow and was a National Institutes of Health Training Fellow.
Dr. Rigel has delivered over 1000 presentations at medical and governmental policy conferences worldwide and has chaired numerous national and international conferences and symposia. He co-chairs the Fall and Winter Clinical Dermatology Conferences. He is the author of numerous articles and abstracts in professional journals as well as lead editor of Cancer of the Skin, the major textbook in this field and has testified before Congress and the FDA on related issues. He often appears on National television including CNN, ABC, FOX, NBC and CBS and his research and opinions are regularly cited in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and many other national magazines and newspapers.
Dr. Rigel serves as the Consultant Dermatologist for the New York Yankees. In addition, Dr. Rigel works with many professional and charitable organizations related to his research interests. He served as President of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Academy of Dermatology Association and also served for 9 years as a Director of the American Board of Dermatology. He is also a Past President of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Dermatological Association and is active in the MIT alumni program as a Regional Chair of the MIT Educational Counselor program.
