  • Danil V. Makarov, MD, MHS is a board-certified urologist and a fellowship trained health services researcher. He received his undergraduate degree in economics with distinction from Yale University (Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude) and his medical degree at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (Alpha Omega Alpha). He completed his residency in urology at the James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Makarov continued on the faculty at Johns Hopkins after which he completed a Masters in Health Sciences Research as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Makarov joined NYU faculty in 2010 as Assistant Professor of Urology, Population Health and Health Policy. He serves as Director of Urological Health Services Research.

    Dr. Makarov is interested in the diffusion of medical innovation and its effect on the cost and quality of care for men with prostate cancer. The goal of his research is to improve the quality and the efficiency of care administered to men with prostate cancer in the United States. Dr. Makarov has a Career Development Award from the Veterans Health Administration to investigate how technology diffusion affects regional variation in utilization, appropriateness and cost in the US and Swedish Healthcare Systems. In the future, he hopes to leverage the understanding gained through these investigations to design large scale behavioral interventions to improve care.
