Summary
- Dr. Spragan is a cardiac (heart) surgeon who specializes in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery for the treatment of coronary artery disease. She is on the highly skilled Lankenau Heart Institute surgical team that performs the most advanced techniques available to restore blood flow to the heart, including robotic CABG through tiny chest incisions, off-pump or “beating heart” CABG (bypass surgery done while the heart continues to beat normally), and hybrid procedures (robotic CABG plus stent placement) to treat blockages in several coronary arteries. Dr. Spragan also specializes in the care of patients with advanced heart failure. When heart failure is advanced, the heart can no longer pump to meet the body’s needs, and medicines are not enough to treat the condition. In these cases, a surgically implanted mechanical pump—called a left ventricular assist device (LVAD)—or a heart transplant may be needed. Dr. Spragan has expertise in determining when a mechanical device or transplant is needed, implanting LVADs, and monitoring patients who are living with a mechanical heart pump or awaiting heart transplant.
