Summary
- As chair of the Department of Medicine, chair of hospital peer-review, and associate medical director of the Sound Intensivist Program at Regional Medical Center of San Jose (RMC), I have achieved significant milestones. These include improving hospital outcomes to secure a Leapfrog A rating by preventing nosocomial infections and patient harm, and reducing ICU length of stay and mortality rates.
I have also authored critical policies that have enhanced our care quality and saved lives, such as the rapid response policy, surgical/anesthesia post-procedure policy, pre-cardiac catheterization stabilization policy, noninvasive ventilation policy, and the code blue policy. The rapid response policy, in particular, has been instrumental in saving many lives at RMC. Additionally, I established the hospital non-beneficial care policy and standardized the function and relevance of the Bio-Ethics Committee, which I previously chaired.
My recent initiatives include a hospital-wide palliative care screening program, as well as strengthening our relationship with donor services, and currently implementing projects including the difficult airway response team, weekly updates to the medical staff on drug shortages, and addressing antibiotic overuse. At the administration's request, I established a proceduralist service for lumbar punctures, thoracentesis, and other minor procedures outside the ICU, filling a crucial gap for inpatient providers. I also implemented a program for daily downgrading of step-down unit patients in collaboration with hospitalists and internal medicine physicians, to optimize bed availability for ICU patients and ED admissions.
I have 35 publications in Index Medicus and served as chair of the Sleep Medicine Section for the American College of Chest Physicians. I completed executive leadership training with the Wharton School of Business and will soon complete certification as a physician executive through the American Association of Physician Leadership
