Summary
- Daniel H. Drake, MD graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1982 and completed his general and trauma surgical residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and the University of Texas Southwestern Affiliated Hospitals in 1988. He returned to the University of Michigan for a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery, finishing in 1990. He was a founding member of the Munson Medical Center open-heart surgery program in 1990 and has practiced at Munson ever since.
As President of the Michigan Society of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgeons (MSTCVS) Dr. Drake founded and co-chaired the MSTCVS Quality Assurance Initiative in 2000. He has hosted numerous MSTCVS Mitral Symposia with emphasis on imaging and continues to do so throughout the Midwest. He is currently a councilor on the MSTCVS Board and directs the MSTCVS Mitral Initiative. His twelve-year investigation on axial echocardiography and echo-guided mitral reconstruction was recently published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging along with two invited commentaries on mitral repair in The New England Journal of Medicine. He has authored numerous other scientific publications including book chapters on mitral echocardiography and speaks regionally and nationally on image-guided valve repair.
In addition to the Michigan Society of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgeons, Dr. Drake is Director of Cardiothoracic Research at Munson Medical Center and on the Editorial Board of CASE Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography as well a other academic pursuits.
Munson Medical Center has received numerous national awards and other recognition for excellence in heart surgery including US News & World Report Top 50 in Cardiology and Heart Surgery.
