Summary
- Courtney M. Campbell, MD, PhD is a cardiologist at Cardiology Consultants of Texas and the Medical Director of Cardiology-Oncology at Baylor Scott and White Heart and Vascular Hospital, Dallas. She is an expert in the cardiovascular care of oncology patients and in patients with amyloidosis.
Cardio-Oncology includes cardiovascular care prior to cancer therapy, during cancer therapy, and throughout cancer survivorship. The discipline focuses on cardiovascular optimization, cardiac monitoring, and preventive cardiovascular care throughout the cancer spectrum. In addition, cardio-oncology aims to minimize disruption in cancer therapy through management of short- and long-term cancer-treated related cardiotoxicity and treatment of acute cardiac issues. Cardio-Oncology is a highly dynamic field as cancer and amyloidosis therapy rapidly evolves.
Within the Cardiology-Oncology program, we seek to bring the latest advances and approaches to our patients to improve their quality of life via excellent patient care, engagement in clinical trials, and robust clinical-translational research collaborations. As a physician-scientist, Dr. Campbell's research interests are in early diagnostic approaches and intervention in cardio-oncology and amyloidosis through prospective studies, clinical trials, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Dr. Campbell was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She studied History of Science at Harvard University, completing bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She earned her MD and PhD in Pharmacology from Vanderbilt University. As part of the Physician Scientist Training Program, she completed her internal medicine residency and cardiovascular medicine fellowship at The Ohio State University. She then completed additional fellowship training in Cardio-Oncology and Amyloidosis at Washington University in St. Louis and served as an attending (supervising) physician. She is thrilled to be home now in Dallas, serving the community she grew up in.
