Summary
- Advanced Technology. Personalized Care. Dr. Sheets came to the Tampa Bay area in 2008 after his glaucoma and cataract training at the #1 Eye Hospital in the United States, the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Since then, he has become a “Go To” glaucoma specialist for Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando and Hillsborough Counties.
Dr. Sheets was drawn to cataract surgery at the age of eighteen, galvanizing an idea that helping people with their vision was part of his life mission. Attending Indiana University School of Medicine created a unique opportunity to perform research in glaucoma, culminating in research lectures presented in France, Venezuela, and California – nearly unheard of for a medical student. This dedication to the field then led to an ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida, one of the highest surgical volume residencies in the country. Here, he was twice named Resident of the Year. The sight was then set for the pinnacle of training: a fellowship at #1 ranked Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
By using this advanced knowledge applied through his natural caring ways, Dr. Sheets has developed a large following of patients and many wonderful relationships with referring doctors. These doctors refer their patients, family and friends to him for cataract surgery and for their mild, moderate or severe glaucoma. By staying on the cutting edge of technology, Dr. Sheets can keep more options open for patients, allowing for more personalization of care. As research and surgical techniques have progressed, there has become an intimate relationship between cataract surgery and glaucoma care. Dr. Sheets is one of the few doctors with advanced training in both cataract and glaucoma care that can take advantage of this connection, especially with the advent of MIGS – minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.
In 2019, Dr. Sheets helped fulfill his lifelong dream of opening his own private practice when he launched Advanced Cataract & Glauco
