Practice: Dr. Hemmer has been board certified as an adult nurse practitioner since 1999. His area of specialty is in adult spinal disorders for the last 23 years. More recently Dr. Hemmer accepted a position in the emergency room where he currently evaluates and treats acute adult patients.
Teaching: Dr. Hemmer started teaching as an adjunct for Saint Louis University in 2007. In the fall of 2013 Christopher accepted a full time position with the school of nursing as assistant professor for the graduate students. He has co-taught several graduate level courses over the years as well as performed as a guest lecturer during residency for the NP students. Chris has been receptive for several years teaching in the clinical setting as a preceptor for NP students interested in spinal diseases and wanting to increase their radiology knowledge. Dr. Hemmer chairs a cadaveric CNE course yearly for spine specialist. Chris has presented various spine topics on the local, state, and national level over the years.
Certifications/ Organizations: Dr. Hemmer is board certified by ANCC as an adult nurse practitioner. He is board certified as an Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner through ONCB. He is a member of American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Member of North American Spine Society. Member Saint Louis Spine Society. Valentine Award Recipient. Shirley A. Martin Distinguished Nurse award. The Association of Missouri Nurse Practitioner Excellence in APN leadership. AANP State Award for Excellence in MO in 2020, and a fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Research: Dr. Hemmer research area is in vertebral compression fractures and osteoporosis. Specifically, the identification and management of fractures and osteoporosis in the adult population is a strong area of interest.
