- Christian M. Lo Cascio MD Dr. med. is an Attending in Interventional Pulmonology and Assistant Professor of Medicine and Thoracic Surgery, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He received his medical degree from the University of Zurich Medical School where he also defended his thesis bestowing the title of Dr. med. He completed his residency as well as his fellowship in pulmonary and sleep medicine at the University of Zurich Hospital and its affiliates. During that time Dr. Lo Cascio was particularly active in pulmonary and sleep physiology research and published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals. After moving to NYC, he worked as a post-doctoral research scientist at Columbia University, focusing on large scale epidemiological studies such as the MESA study and the COPD gene study well as advanced lung imaging with hyperpolarized H3 MRI. After completing the USMLE, Christian did his second residency at New York Presbyterian-Columbia University. He went on to do a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Mount Sinai West and Morningside. He completed his extensive training as the inaugural Interventional Pulmonary fellow at Mount Sinai. He focuses in particular on diagnosis and therapy of pulmonary malignancies, preforming high risk bronchoscopic interventions like treatment central airway obstruction. Further he specializes in acute and chronic pleural diseases as well as non-invasive lung volume reduction for select patients with severe emphysema.
