Summary
- I began my lifelong quest for optimizing health and human performance as an employee at my family’s natural and gourmet health food store in 1980. For the next 16 years, I comprehensively studied the essential nutrients and dietary disciplines necessary for achieving optimal health and fitness. During this time I also competed in Division I college football and track and won or placed 2nd in 6 National Pro-Am Qualifying bodybuilding contests. Armed with these skill sets and a commitment to excellence, I became a U.S. Navy SEAL, and I served our country at the ‘tip of the spear’ with distinction for 10 years in more than 2 dozen countries, spanning 4 continents. After a severe injury, I left military service and earned my Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) from the University of Nebraska Medical School in 2006. I then began working in General Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic where I gravitated toward Orthopedic and then began working at a private Sports Medicine/Orthopedic Surgery practice.
Eventually I returned to private military service and was sent by my country on clandestine assignments in Africa and the Middle East. My extensive health and wellness knowledge, combined with my medical and Special Operations experiences, brought immense and unique benefits to the highly specialized groups I worked in. Now, having had to bring my own mind and body to peak performance levels in life or death situations, I understand and value the importance of being at the top of your game both physically and mentally. I have spent the last several years integrating my experiences with performance medicine in order to treat issues such as traumatic brain injury, depression, PTSD, chronic stress and anxiety, executive burnout, drug addiction, cognitive decline, metabolic derangements, as well as a myriad of medical and psychiatric conditions linked to hormonal and nutritional deficiencies. Now, I feel very fortunate to be sharing these modalities in my community!
