  • Dr. Charles Rhoades is the Senior Hand & Upper Extremity Surgeon of Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance. A native of Kansas City, he joined the practice in 1984. His areas of clinical expertise are shoulder surgery, hand surgery & upper extremity surgery, and athletic knee injuries/surgery.

    Dr. Rhoades was President and CEO of the Dickson-Diveley Clinic for 24 years from 1988-2012. He organized and led the creation of the Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute (KC’s only specialty hospital dedicated solely to orthopaedic surgery). He served as CEO of KCOI from 1998 to January 1, 2024.

    He has lectured nationally on the topics of hand surgery, shoulder injuries, knee injuries, medical group management, specialty hospital organization, hospital/physician joint ventures, electronic medical records, and internet applications to medicine. He was a Kansas City Royals Team Physician from 1986-2010.

    He is a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UMKC and Clinical faculty Kansas University Medical Center. He was an Oral Examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic surgery from 2008 to 2022, Fellow of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and member American Orthopaedic Association. He was President Dickson-Diveley Midwest Orthopaedic Clinic (now Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance), Saint Luke’s Hospital Medical Staff, Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute and Missouri State Orthopaedic Association.

    His peers have honored Dr. Rhoades as a KC Super Doctor for more than 10 consecutive years 2007-2018, a KC/Regional Top Doctor 2013-2024, and Ingram’s Hero in Medicine 2024.

    He is active in Boy Scouts, Heart of America Council Boy Scout Board, Philmont Scout Ranch Medical Staff, KU Summerfield Scholar, KU Endowment Association Trustee, KU Medical Center Advancement Board and St. Agnes Catholic Church member. He enjoys teaching, snow skiing, water skiing, flying, hunting, fly fishing, woodworking and farming.
