Summary
- Dr. Charles Hatem is the Harold Amos Distinguished Academy Professor at Harvard Medical School and Past Chair of the Department of Medical Education at Mount Auburn Hospital. Dr. Hatem received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School (’66) and completed his internship and residency on the Harvard Medical Service (II & IV) at Boston City Hospital. He practiced as a primary care physician for 35 years along with his teaching and administrative responsibilities which continued until stepping down in 2021. Dr. Hatem has had a long interest in the application of educational theory to medical training, including the development of a primary care residency training program at Mount Auburn as well as establishing faculty fellowships in Medical Education within the Harvard medical system. He has developed and taught in many successful CME and staff courses in ambulatory and primary care medicine and was actively engaged in teaching at all levels. Teaching at the bedside was a particular passion.
