Summary
- I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida, and I have spent all but two years of my life in the sunshine state. During my tenure as a research assistant at the University of Florida, I continually found myself pulled toward the field of ophthalmology. With the encouraging and enthusiastic mentorship of world-famous doctor and beloved Retina Specialty Institute physician, Shalesh Kaushal, M.D., Ph.D., I plotted my course in ophthalmology. Seeing my mentor’s fascination and passion for the eye galvanized me to further my own career in the same field.
Trading “Gator Chomps” for “Tomahawk Chops”, I earned my medical degree from Florida State University College of Medicine in 2008. I began an internship at the same hospital where I was born, Orlando Regional Medical Center. I completed my residency in ophthalmology at Shands Hospital in Gainesville and a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery with close to 1,000 surgeries completed at the Retina Specialists of Alabama.
I join Retina Specialty Institute’s Gainesville location, with my wife Jeannie who is an optometrist, eager to be closer to family in Orlando. In my free time, I enjoy golfing and refining my cooking and wine knowledge.
Accomplishments and experiences include:
• Joined Retina Specialty Institute in 2014
• Board Certified - American Board of Ophthalmology
• Fellowship - Vireoretinal Surgery, Retina Specialists of Alabama, University of Alabama, Birmingham, Alabama
• Residency - Ophthalmology, Shands Hospital, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida
• Internship – Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando, Florida
• M.D. – Florida State University College of Medicine, Tallahassee, Florida
• B.S. – University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida
I look forward to providing the highest quality of care, raising awareness of retinal disease, and treating patients like family.
