- Dr. Cathy Zhang is a double board certified physician in both Anesthesiology and Pain medicine. She first earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Pittsburgh with a dual major in Neuroscience and Business. She then pursued her medical degree at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans where she earned a distinctive honor award for outstanding student in Medical Microbiology. Afterward, she completed her Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine Residency training at the University of Alabama in Birmingham where she was recognized early on for her clinical excellence in Pain Medicine and awarded the prestigious J. Antonio Aldrete Award for excellence in Pain Medicine. During this time, she also focused on patient safety, continuous quality improvement, and graduate medical education and served in numerous organizational leadership positions. Dr. Zhang then went on for specialized training with a Chronic Pain Medicine Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where she learned a multidisciplinary approach to pain management by working with Anesthesiologists, Neurologists, Surgeons, Psychiatrists, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation doctors.
Dr. Zhang now specializes in MIS (minimally invasive surgery) spinal surgeries, neuromodulation and advanced surgical techniques like spinal cord stimulation, Vertiflex procedures for spinal stenosis, vertebral augmentation with Kyphoplasty and Spinejack, both fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided injections, peripheral nerve stimulation, peripheral nerve ablations, sympathetic blocks, and joint injections.
