- Born and raised in Illinois, Dr. McDermott ventured out east to complete her medical training at Penn State College of Medicine and also earned her Master's degree in Education. She subsequently completed dual residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Michigan where she also served as Chief Resident.
Dr. McDermott is acutely aware of the emotional toll hospitalization can take on patients and their families. This understanding fuels her commitment to support them during these challenging periods, converting a potentially intimidating experience into a collaborative journey. Her philosophy centers around enabling patients and their families to become integral members of their care team while collaboratively formulating treatment plans that consider their unique health complexities and personal goals.
In addition to her patient-centered work, Dr. McDermott holds a deep passion for medical education, cherishing the opportunity to mentor learners at every stage of their medical careers.
Away from the hospital, Dr. McDermott is an ardent nature lover with a soft spot for animals of all kinds. She enjoys being active which pairs well with her love of cooking and trying new foods.
